Compton Bishop Parish Council reaffirms it’s declaration of a Climate Emergency and a Biodiversity Emergency acknowledging that humanity is currently in a state of climate and biodiversity crisis.
The Council is committed to adopting and promoting environmental good practice and protecting the environment in the parish of Compton Bishop and expects the same commitment from contractors and agents working on behalf of The Council, thus continually improving our environmental performance.
Compton Bishop Parish Council will;
- Act to conserve and enhance biodiversity
- Encourage and promote local renewable energy and reducing energy use.
- Seek to minimise the adverse environmental impacts of new buildings, building refurbishments as far as it is within its powers.
- Make efficient use of natural resources, including gas, electricity, and water and avoid waste by reuse, repair and lastly recycle and encourage local residents to do the same.
- Ensure that any buildings owned by the Council are energy efficient and make use of renewable energy where possible
- Encourage residents of the parish to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and use renewable energy where possible.
- Encourage and promote safe sustainable travel, including cycling and walking
- Communicate this policy to all persons or groups working for or on behalf of the organisation.
- Publish this policy on the Council’s website.
- Appoint one or more Councillors with responsibility for bringing relevant issues to the Council’s attention and promoting the policy and action plan.
- Support the work of local climate action and similar groups.
Action Plan
Biodiversity:
- Continue to support and develop the Parish Wildlife site.
- Promote environmental friendly policies for road verges and other sites including tree planting where appropriate.
Sustainable travel
- Continue efforts for a safe off the road route for pedestrians between Cross and Axbridge
- Work with local walking and cycling groups to improve safety on local roads.
Renewable energy and energy efficiency
Seek the agreement of the Hall Committee to obtaining specification and costings for installation of solar panels on Cross Memorial Hall and proceeding to install subject to available finance, seeking grants as necessary.
Policy review
- Report to the Annual Parish Open Meeting on progress on the action plan and consult with parishioners as to any further actions they would like to see adopted.
- Review the Policy and Action plan at every Parish AGM and amend as appropriate.
